Kenyan designer Rahul Bhavan used his latest fashion event in Nairobi to highlight disability inclusion, with participants calling for more opportunities for creatives living with disabilities.

Dubbed Rahul's Fashion Cocktail, the event was held at Bidwood Hotel in Nairobi, bringing together models, fashion designers, makeup artists and other creatives from Nairobi and several other counties.

More than a showcase of stylish outfits, the event delivered a powerful message that disability should never be a barrier to creativity or success.

Speaking during the event, Rahul said his disability has never diminished his passion for fashion and expressed hope that the platform would inspire more people living with disabilities to pursue their dreams.

"My disability has never stopped my creativity. This event is about creating a space where everyone belongs and proving that talent has no barriers," he said.

Rahul credited the event's success to the encouragement he received from friends and models who constantly challenged him to think bigger.

Their support inspired him to organise what has grown into a full-scale fashion showcase celebrating creativity and inclusion.

Participants echoed Rahul's message, saying fashion and modelling should remain accessible to everyone, regardless of physical ability.

One of the models, Sandhwa, said there is a shortage of platforms that give emerging talent the visibility they deserve.

"More people should do what Rahul has done today. By providing the space, the energy and the vibe, he has created opportunities for talented people to be seen and recognised," she said.

Fashion designer Payonea Atieno urged the public, fellow designers and industry stakeholders to support local creatives by buying their designs, attending their events and promoting their work.

Meanwhile, makeup artist and event architect Abina said the fashion show created opportunities for many players in the creative industry, including designers, makeup artists, models and the venue hosting the event.

"Everyone benefits from such events because they provide a platform to showcase creativity and talent. I encourage creatives not to hide their gifts but to use platforms like Rahul's Fashion Cocktail to promote their work," she said.

Organisers announced that proceeds from the event will fund Rahul's next project, a film focused on disability awareness and inclusion.
